In Hip Hop History Today “J Dilla dies” February 10, 2006
James Dewitt Yancey better known as J Dilla, was a record producer and rapper who surfaced in the 90’s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. According to his obituary he was one of the music industry’s most influential hip-hop artists. He was known to have worked with big-name artists including A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, MF DOOM, Poe, The Roots, The Pharcyde and Common. Yancey died February 10, 2006 of the blood disease thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. R.I.P. J Dilla.
